“I have one quote I very often read to myself, from a very good friend: ‘Forget the people around you now; remember the little boy who was racing in go-karts, what you were dreaming of and what he wanted to achieve one day and what was his goal. Race for him.”

2007
“I started in karting, then everything went step by step. Formula 1 was always far away. You dreamed about it, but you never thought you would really make it. So it’s really something special. I still can’t believe it!”

→ The 20-year-old from Heppenheim was given immediate clearance by BMW-Sauber to switch to Red Bull Racing’s sister team Toro Rosso, where he took from Hungarian Grand Prix onwards in 2007 the seat of American Scott Speed.

2011

Belgium GP (12th Race): 1st place
“I’m very happy, today was a very good race for us … It couldn’t have been any better. The car felt fantastic and with each lap we learned more and more about the tyres, which made us more confident to push when necessary.”

“… I love what I do and don’t think I could be happier at this stage. It’s been close here, so we need to keep cool and keep pushing, but the guys know this is the way forward, so I’m not worried. But for today we will enjoy it and be very proud.”

2012
Australia GP (1st Race): 2nd place (Albert Park Circuit) – “I think it was a great race, a lot of fun. I had a good start initially and was surprised by Nico, who had a very good start and got past. I passed him again, which was a great manoeuvre and on the edge. Thanks to everyone who is pushing so hard and making this race result possible today.“
THREE-TIME World Champion

→ Brazil GP (20th Race): 6th place (Autódromo José Carlos Pace)
“To win a third title, especially here where one of my heroes – Ayrton Senna – was from, it’s difficult to put into words. I was crying in the car but my radio wasn’t working, so I’m maybe happy for that! Tomorrow I can probably say more, but now I just don’t have the right words.”

“I think this is one of the best days in my life so far.”

2014

→ Abu Dhabi GP (19th Race): 8th Place (Yas Marina Circuit)
“I personally have very special memories of the Abu Dhabi circuit and race; it was here in 2010 that I became World Champion for the first time in my favourite F1 car, the RB6. That was a weekend I will never forget and this year the race will mark another big moment in my career; my last race with Infiniti Red Bull Racing. Of course it will be an emotional weekend as we have great memories together, but I’ll enjoy the weekend with the team and with a bit of luck maybe we’ll get a final podium.”

“I’m very happy and proud to have worked alongside such a talented and dedicated group of people at Aston Martin F1. Even though it wasn’t a lot of fun in terms the results, it’s been a lot of fun working with everyone – helping the team on its journey and building for the future.“
